Hi Friends,
I have completed my Macau and Hong Kong trip in July 2010. So how much did travel budget did I spend on this Macau and Hong Kong trip?
Let me give you some brief breakdown of our travel budget:-
We have 2 travelers this time.
In total, we spent 8 days 7 nights in Macau and Hong Kong.
Here is the breakdown of our travel budget to assist you in planning should you want to visit Hong Kong and Macau
1) Airfare, Hotel Accommodations and Transport (S$1950)
We fly budget airlines for this trip. We took a flight from Singapore to Macau, play 2.5 days in Macau and then took a ferry to Hong Kong. At the end of the 8th day, we took a budget airline from Hong Kong back to Singapore.
As the first night in Macau, we arrived at 1.30a.m, we checked in a 3 star accommodation in Macau which is near to the airport.
For the next 2 nights in Macau, we splurged and stayed in Venetian Macau Resort Hotel. For the remaining 4 nights in Hong Kong, we stayed in 4 star Nathan hotel located near to Jordan MTR.
For the transport in Macau, we took some taxis. Taxis is not expensive in Macau. We also relied on the free shuttle bus provided by most casino hotels to the ferry terminals.
Transport cost includes 2 ferry tickets (HKD 140 per pax) from Macau ferry terminal to the Hong Kong China ferry terminal.
In Hong Kong, we relied mainly on MTR (HKD 125 per pax) , star ferry (HKD 2 per pax) , walking. For our trip from Nathan hotel back to the airport, we took the A21 airport bus (HKD33 per pax) . The trip is very comfortable.
In Hong Kong, traveling using the Octopus card is sufficient. It is cheaper transport means as compared to buying a tourist transport pass unless you plan to take at least 4 long trips per day.
2) Local Attractions and Food (S$790)
Hotel accommodation in Macau comes with breakfast buffet for the first 3 days.
In Macau, most of the local attractions such as St Paul’s Church, A-Ma Temple, Casinos, Senado Square does not require admission fee. We pampered ourselves for a A class seats at the world renowned Cirque Du Soleil (HKD788 per pax). If you plan to watch this resident show, it is cheaper to purchase the circus tickets with the accommodation at Venetian Macao Resort Hotel.
In Hong Kong, we took up evening Harbour cruise plus Lei Yue Mun dinner; combo admission tickets (HKD 200 per pax) for the peak tram, Madame Tussauds and view the spectacular Hong Kong at the top of the peak; we sat in crystal cabin (HKD 157 per pax) to Ngong Ping village. We purchased photos taken in the Crystal Cabin (HKD88) and photos taken with Jacky Chan at Madame Tussauds (HKD100).
We ate a variety of local food in Macau and Hong Kong. For more expensive dining, we ate in a Portuguese restaurant in Venetian Macau Resort Hotel (HKD320) ; we ate at Jumbo Seafood Floating Restaurant (HKD300) , Luk Yu Tea House (HKD300) and Lei Yue Mun Seafood Village (HKD800) in Hong Kong.
Other times, we dine at the Hong Kong Cafe. A breakfast for 2 people cost around HKD70 while dinner costs around HKD100. We also ate at the dessert stalls many times because the dessert is so yummy under the hot sunny day. A dessert drink costs around HKD20 per cup whereas a dessert costs around HKD33-58 per item.
3) Total Travel Budget (S$2740)
So the basic cost of flying, staying, traveling and eating in Macau and Hong Kong cost S$2740 for 2 pax and 7 nights.
The overall split is about 70% for accommodation, flights and transport and 30% for attractions and food.
The above cost excludes gifts for family and friends and personal shopping. You will need to cater more shopping budget if you love shopping!
4) Things To Note If You Are Traveling With Travel Agent
If you are traveling with travel agency, you will note that travel packages usually will cover the air flights, accommodations and transport.
Most meals are also included unless there is a free and easy day or when you are brought to Disneyland or Ocean Park.
However, you will have to ask specifically on the details of the tourist attractions.
For example, you can either take cable car or a bus ride up to view the Big Buddha. Some travel agents will use a bus transport, which is cheaper. But viewing Lantau Island from the cable car is an experience you do not want to miss!
The travel budget is just for a guide. On average, you can budget about S$200 per night which includes all basic travel costs.
Hope the above information is useful!
Cheers
Karen
