Hi Friends,

Do you know that Finland is really big? Lets get a look at the map of Finland.

map of Finland

Helsinki, Finland

The capital of Finland and the biggest city in FinlandĀ  is Helsinki.

Helsinki

If you fly from Singapore, most tour agencies will arrange you on Finnair and fly into Helsinki. If you are doing a free and easy tour, you can buy a Helsinki card from Viator and you are off on a beautiful city tour.

Rovaniemi, Finland

Rovaniemi is the capital of Lapland in Finland, located at the northern Arctic Circle. It is a popular travel destination as it is known as the hometown of Santa Claus and to cross the Arctic Cirlce.

Rovaniemi

Ivalo, Finland

If you visit Ivalo, you must get a chance to visit the Igloo Village and see the snow and glass igloo. If possible, experience a stay for 1 night.

Ivalo Igloo Village

You can extend your vacation by staying more nights in comfortable cabin logs and participate in activities such as Husky farm, snow mobile, reindeer farm, ice fishing etc.

For people who stay in Norway, Ivalo is the nearest airport in Finland they most likely will travel to.

Lapland

You probably have heard of Lapland.

Lapland is a region in the northern parts of Finland, Sweden, Norway and also Russia. Lapland in Finland is almost a third of the total area of Finland.

Lapland

The largest cities in Lapland are Rovaniemi, Kemi and Tornio. Rovaniemi is the largest city. Kemi houses the port of Sampo ice breaking cruise in Lapland.

Other Information In Finland

1) Use Euro in Finland.

When you book free and easy tour, you will be quoted in Euro. It makes more sense to book your own trip when Euro depreciates against Singapore dollar.

Currently, Euro is about 1.8 to Singapore dollars.

2) Weather in Finland

Finland enjoys four seasons in a year.

2a) Summer spreads from June to August.

In summer, you can enjoy hiking, bathing in sauna, cultural and musical events and the Midnight sun.

What exactly is midnight sun? Well, during summer in Lapland, the sun does not set at all for many weeks.

2b) Spring spreads from Mar to May

Spring time is all about flora and fauna. Beautiful scenary.

2c) Autumn spreads from August to October

During autumn, the night is a little shorter but there is still plenty of daylight late into the night.

2d) Winter spreads from November to March

This is the most fun to me. During winter land, people enjoy countryside on ski, snowmobile, sleigh pulled by husky or reindeer.

This is also the best times to view the northern lights (aka Aurora Borealis).

Exciting experiences like ice fishing, ice breaking cruise, building you own igloo are all possible

So now that you have more information on Finland, does it sound fun to you too?

Cheers

Karen
