Hi Friends
I am really interested in a Finland Christmas holiday for next year vacation. Now I am scouting for deals and deciding if I should do a free and easy tour or a package tour. Let me first check out the various Singapore tour agencies’ tour packages to Finland first!
Singapore Tour Agencies
I did a search and found out the following Singapore tour agencies offer tour packages to Finland. These tour agencies are
1) Five Star Tour- 10 days Xmas in Finland
2) CTC Travel – 10 days Finland Winter Wonderland
3) Dynasty – 8 days 5 nights Finland Winter Spectacular
4) Super Travel -10 days Finland Santa Claus Land
Tour Packages Prices
Five Star Tour offers SGD3888 it is brochure to Finland. This price has reflected a $200 discount per adult, which is the same Natas discount Five Star Tour offers after Natas.
Upon asking, I realize that besides above tour package prices, I have to budget additional charges like:-
1) SGD497 for airport taxes for flight on Finnair
2)on a free day at Rovaniemi, travelers can sign up for the Sampo ice breaking cruise at Euro 350/pax.
3) Tipping of local driver and tour guide at Euro 80/pax for whole trip
4) Meals not provided are 3 lunch and 3 dinners. Roughly budget Euro 20 / meal / pax. So meal allowance required is Euro 120/pax for whole trip
Other tour agencies prices are:
CTC Travel – 10 days Finland Winter Wonderland. Price not available on website.
Dynasty – 8 days 5 nights Finland Winter Spectacular. Pricing not available as website is under maintenance
Super Travel -10 days Finland Santa Claus Land at SGD4388
Tour Itinerary
I make a comparison of the tour itinerary offer by Five Star Tours, Super Travel and CTC Travel. They offer rather similar tour itinerary, although the sequence may be slightly different.
1) Fly from Singapore to Helsinki, capital of Finland. The airline selected is usually Finnair, which flies direct.
2) Domestic flight from Helsinki to Ivalo and then by coach to Saariselka. You will visit the Igloo village and see the snow Igloo and Ice gallery.
No mention that you can spend a night at the snow Igloo, which is one great experience in Finland.
3) Transfer from Saariselka to Rovaniemi, which is the Santa Claus Land. Visit the Santa Claus village, mail a postcard home from Santa Post Office.
4) Spend your day to experience Husky ride, Reindeer ride, driving snowmobile, ice fishing, crossing the Arctic circle. Also, tour tries to catch a glimpse of the Northern lights. But it is still subjected to weather condition and tour cannot guarantee you can definitely see it.
5) A free and easy day is given for you to try out the Sampo ice breaking cruise. For more adventurous folk, you can either try out ice swimming.
Don’t worry, you will be dressed in thermal suits from head to toes and keep you warm, dry and floating in the sea.
Note that CTC Travel does not have a free and easy day which you can experience the Sampo ice breaking cruise.
6) Depart back to Helsinki and do a city tour which highlights Senate Square, renowned Temppeliaukio Church, Finland’s Hall of Congress and not forgetting shopping.
Super Travel also offers making a trip to Christmas market so that you can soak up in the Christmas atmosphere.
7) Travel to Old Porvoo by coach and spend your day to enjoy lunch or coffee break. Porvoo has a assortment of small shops, cafes and restaurants.
8 ) Bid farewell to Finland and fly from Helsinki back to Singapore.
Well, I think the itinerary provided by Five Star Tour and Super Travel is rather complete. Do note that I did not have a chance to review the itinerary offer by Dynasty and will strongly encourage you to do so.
CTC Travel is also good but it miss out the option on ice breaking cruise.
But what I will really wish is these tour agencies to cater one more night for me to stay in a snow or glass igloo. That will be so cool!
So far, it seems that only Super Travel mention about the Christmas market. So ask other tour agencies if they too bring you to the Christmas market.
I guess there is no right or wrong itinerary. It depends very much on your family traveling needs and whether you have kids or all adults travelers.
But with a basic idea of the types of experiences to try at Finland, you are better equipped with the right questions to ask the tour agencies at the Natas Fair or Travel Fair.
I will still scout and see if I do get any better value free and easy tour packages. If I can’t, I will opt to sign up one of the Singapore tour agencies during next year Natas Fair.
Cheers
Karen
