Visiting Snow Village In Lapland
ByTags: Finland, Snow village
Hi Friends,
When you are at Rovaniemi visiting the Santa Claus Village, you can rent a car or take a bus from Rovaniemi to Kittila before getting a taxi to Snow Village.
Each year starting in late October, 1000 truck of loads of snow are used to create the Snow Village. The village is a complex of ice and snow which covers an area of 20000 square meters and contains restaurant, bar, hotel rooms and suites and etc.
Snow Village will be opened again on 10th of December this year and will remain open until 15th of April next year. If you just like to see what is a snow village all about, you can too as the admission tickets are just Euro 10/ adult and Euro 5/child. It is opened daily from 10:00 to 22:00.
But if you already has made your way to Snow Village, why not consider spending a night there? You can experience an overnight stay sleeping in a room made of snow. Won’t it be too cold? Accordingly, you will be given warm and comfortable sleeping bag to keep you warm.
Because of the good isolating features of snow, the indoor temperature of Snow Village remains always between -2 and -5 Celsius degrees, regardless of the outdoor temperature. There are approximately 30 rooms, all made of ice and snow. Individually decorated suites with different themes are also available.
A double room in Snow Hotel is priced at Euro 120/adult and Euro 70/child. This includes a guided tour inside the Snow Village, sleeping bags, wake up with hot berry juice, buffet breakfast in warm log restaurant and a diploma of igloo overnight stay.
In the morning or evening, you should also try out sauna in Snow Hotel underground sauna chargeable at Euro 10/person.
If you do want to extend stay in Snow village, you can too as there are many activities which the Snow Hotel can arrange for you from Monday to Sunday. This makes planning for a free and easy tour easier.
Monday:
- 10:00 Two hour snowmobile safari (Euro 71/ Adult, Euro 36/Child)
- 13:30 Snowshoe excursion (Euro 59/adult, Euro 35/child)
Tuesday:

- 13:00 Cross-country skiing school (Euro 65/adult, Euro 35/ child)

Wednesday:
- 16:00 10km husky safari (Euro 128/adult, Euro 89/child)
- 19:00 Evening snowmobile safari (Euro 105/adult, Euro 55/Child)
Thursday:
- 10:00 Ice fishing experience and lunch (Euro 130/ adult, Euro 80/Child)
- 17:00 Reindeer safari at Snow Village
Friday:
- 10:00 10km husky safari
Saturday:

- 17:00 Reindeer safari at Snow Village
Sunday:
- 10:00 Ice sculpting (Euro 80/pax)
- 13:00 Horseback riding (Euro 83/pax)

Ideally I think I will plan 1-2 night stay in Snow Village. If I can only spare one day, I will arrive early in the day on Sunday and join the ice sculpting course. The rest of the day is to spend exploring the snow village, spending the evening in the snow hotel sauna and dining in the restaurant.
How about you?
Cheers
Karen
